Students rallying at FNUniv today

On Wednesday at noon, Regina students are to rally at the First Nations University of Canada for better access to post-secondary education.

The rally is part of the National Day of Action, which will see numerous rallies take place across Canada to get the attention of provincial and the federal governments.

In Regina, the national goal is eliminating the two-per-cent cap on the Post-Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP). The federal government provides funding for aboriginal students to attend post-secondary institutions through the PSSSP. Since 1996, the amount of money given out nationally has increased by two per cent each year. Tuition has risen 11 per cent over the past three years in Saskatchewan.

Regina’s provincial goal is to implement a tuition freeze.

After the short rally, those in attendance are to move inside. A number of guest speakers are scheduled throughout the day.
