Alberta stepping up to help students
The Alberta government has announced that they will be helping post secondary students to secure financial aid to pay for their schooling.
While the announcement doesn’t help with debt load, it helps with the qualifications for aid.
The province will no longer consider a student’s earnings, RRSPs, or parental income as qualifying factors when determining a loan.
Students with both parents will need to show evidence that $1,500 has been put aside for their education while single parent families won’t need to show any savings.
Alberta is also going to be streamlining applications so students will only be required to deal with one organization called Student Aid Alberta.
The student loan budget has also been increased from $267M to $274M.
